“Unfamiliar Link To Common Figure”

is a 14″x17″ oil painting utilizing the colors black, white, grey and brown on paper. Most of this painting was created using an oil stick. While out one day, I saw a black metal pole in a parking lot that was struck by a car. The resulting damage from the collision was the inspiration for this piece. The fractured light post inspired the design used on this piece, which resembled an abstract face wearing a hat. In my day to day life, I often observe things that look like faces and I incorporate them into my art from time to time. People have told me that they see a house in this painting, while others say they just see an abstract design. That is one of the things I love most about art, that one person can see it one way while in others, it is interpreted in a completely different light. During the process of creating this piece, the oil smudged a lot, which was unintentional but was left due to the fact that it added character. Simply by using a few different and diverse designs with four relatively dull colors, an abstract painting was created. “Unfamiliar Link To Common Figure” is another variation of style I use in my collection. Abstract paintings like this one, are an uncommon art form for me because my style is usually more complex or outright to the point.
