Out Of Orbit 14″x17″ Mixed Media on Paper, July 2015.

“Out Of Orbit” is a 14″x17″ painting on paper with a great visual of an astronaut that appears to be stuck in a meteor show all while being flown out of orbit. The astronaut is seen traveling backwards as s meteor is simultaneously sailing by. There are many techniques that are part of my vernacular in this painting. One of which is the meteor which is created with a swirl effect by applying oil paint straight from a tube and creating lines with the edge. There is a planet symbol that is employs a similar technique except it was created with prismacolor pencils. The sun is seen reflecting off of the astronauts helmet. The blue lines located on the bottom of this piece was created by taking an oil stick and rubbing it sideways on the paper, while the paper was resting on a piece of cardboard. The astronauts suit was constructed with oil paint as well. The swirls once again appear in the stream of the meteor but was drawn with a prismacolor pencil. The colors yellow orchard and blue worked well together to create this piece. ‘Out Of Orbit’ has been labeled as one of my best pieces by art critics.
