Motor City 48″x48″ Acrylic and Oil on Tile Board with Black Frame, May 2014.

Motor City is about a car manufacturer that relocated from the once world renowned city of Detroit, to Mexico. The majority of this composition was done with¬†acrylic paint. The bricks illustrated in the painting were used with oil paint. “The air once smelled clean” is a quote I thought of when I took a break to reflect on the painting. I told myself I needed a breath of fresh air and the idea for the title came to me so organically. The color temperatures of Motor City are very warm. There’s a lot of black. In this piece, it is clear that the people are not happy about the fact that Motor City, which is represented by the car manufacturer Ford, is leaving the place that was once the crown jewel of the automobile industry.
