“Mosquito” is a folk art sculpture that was created using a rusty, old antique snow shovel that has a fully attached pole & handle. It also incorporates a heating coil used at the top and bottom, a vintage rusty trowel, ivory colored plastic dresser knobs and finally, a brown karate belt. Mosquito was crafted to eventually accompany the life sized sculpture of a “warrior” that I am in the process of creating. The Mosquito is going to be the weapon of choice for the warrior going into battle. Influenced by Folk Artist Hawkins Bolden, this piece of art has “eyes” made out of dresser knobs which were drilled into the “face” of the shovel. The trowel is attached to the handle by the heating coil, which creates a spike. Utilizing the brown karate belt, the weapon was given a grip to hold onto. As an individual piece, “Mosquito” is creative and interesting, but it is meant to be used in collaboration with The Generals Helmet, and other items to complete the ‘warrior.’ This item is not for sale as it is an accessory to the ‘warrior’. The materials were all bought from thrift stores, in one day and created later on that evening.
