The Generals Helmet By CAM. Aluminum Bucket w/ Handle, Lead Twine & Leather Strap, 2015.

is a sculpture created with an aluminum bucket w handle, lead twine and a leather strap. I wanted to create something reliable that would last a life time. I wanted it to be unique enough to be considered a true piece of folk art. So I began looking for items. The helmet I dug up from my brothers backyard and was severely pitted on the bottom, but the handle was completely intact. I then acquired a strand of lead twine from one of my suppliers that provides me art materials. I was able to drill the pitting out to a wider diameter and then intertwined the lead between each hole. There was a far and wide search for the perfect leather strap. I spent all day going antique shopping until I found the perfect one. The leather strap was added to pay respect to Folk Artist Hawkins Bolden. I love his use of metal with holes in it and added items such as feathers, furs, leather and metal. There is a life sized sculpture of a “warrior” I am building and this The Generals Helmet will be worn into combat.
