Animalistic Instincts 16″x20″ Mixed Media on Paper, September 2015.

Animalistic Instincts is a drawing on paper of a multiple faces of men, the female body and an abstract face of an orange cat. There is a symbol I use for birds on the left side. There is a broken bottle hidden on the top with a figure that appears to be going from laying on their back to crawling on their knees. The mans face on the left has red devil horns and orange eyes of fire. This Animalistic look of horns is the Instincts this painting is radiating. I was inspired to paint this while listening to The Doors. Jim Morrison’s lyrics and presence influenced the bottle, naked women, and both faces are his. Restraint with the subjects was important to me and I didn’t use vibrant colors. There is a strong drawing style used on this piece. I don’t normally have drawings are my main style but this painting is full of drawn out imagery. Animalistic Instincts is a title I gave this painting to represent how deep inside me the ideas of my artwork comes from.
